“More memorable and exciting for the kids than the Grand Canyon!”

Motel grounds...there's even a playground!
We found this gem in Frommers 2009. We were exhausted from a long day at the Grand Canyon and didn't want to stay in an overpriced hotel there because we were headed for Phoenix first thing the next morning anyway. So we went out on a limb and called them to see if one of their Kabooses was available and by luck one was! Tired as we were we arrived (35 min from Grand Canyon) to meet Shirley (owner) who was welcoming and friendly. The Train room was so cool and simple and above all else...CLEAN! We put our 3, 5, and 7 year old in the fold out bed and we slept comfortably nearby in the queensize. The room decorated with funny nostalgic signs warning passengers of conmen on the train and other such phrases. The next morning we took a bunch of great pictures in front of the large train car that says GRAND CANYON. Really a neat experience and a great chance to see the original Route 66! The price was right...$117 tax included. Highly recommended.

Shirley at the Canyon RV Park was awesome! Two months before we arrived I booked the Caboose #1 for our family of 4 coming back from the Grand Canyon. Shirley emailed me some tips on AZ and said the "Navajo Taco" in Cameron was not to be missed. She answered a number of emails from a first time AZ traveler and was always helpful and quick to respond. Shirley gave us some coupons to the cruisers cafe on route 66 and the whole family had the BBQ platter with leftovers for a lunch the next day (try the pale ale micro brew) The Caboose #1 is the one to stay in (by the trees) it has a nice deck that looks out into the trees. The Caboose has a decent amount of room in it and the kids loved the queen bunk beds with the TV in the bottom bunk. Our queen bed might have been the most comfortable bed I stayed in AZ. The Caboose stayed warm but not hot, I stayed at other rooms and what is up with the heat on 80! I'm from FL I came to 7,000 ft for some cool temps! Here is some irony...I had to log into Southwest.com the next morning to confirm our seats. The wireless internet worked great IN THE CABOOSE. Confirming a flight from a 1929 Red Caboose on Route 66. Classic!

We stayed here on the hind end of our trip to the Grand Canyon, which allowed us to spend most of a day at the Canyon, and then have a short drive to very pleasant and well-priced accommodations. Shirley, the owner, provided great recommendations and coupons for a couple local restaurants. We had booked a regular cabin room for my family of four, and we were quite comfortable, with a fridge and microwave for late night snacks. The office boasts a gift shop of local Route 66 goodies, plus a basket of fresh fruit.

I really enjoyed my stay there. It has quaint little cottages surrounded by rocks and trees. It also has railcars and cabooses. The air is fresh, clean and close to the Grand Canyon. The rooms are clean and well kept. The staff were very friendly and courteous. It has a long history and it should be considered a land mark for the town of Williams. Had a great time, hope you do to.
